New Delhi – In Q3 2025, India’s personal computer market achieved a record high, with shipments up 10.1 % year‑over‑year to 4.9 million units, IDC reported on Tuesday. That eclipses last year’s same‑quarter peak of 4.5 million units.
All product lines – desktops, notebooks and workstations – grew noticeably. Notebooks were the biggest contributor, rising 9.5 % YoY, while desktop sales jumped 11.6 %. Workstations posted the strongest gain, up 14.2 % from a year earlier. The premium notebook segment (units cost > $1,000) also fared well, increasing 8.5 % YoY, reflecting steady demand for high‑performance machines in both consumer and business settings.
AI‑enabled notebooks kept pace as the fastest‑growing category, with shipments surging 126.5 % from the previous year. Most of those units were basic AI models that carried hardware‑based AI features, boosted by significant discounts and cashback incentives. Next‑generation AI PCs also gained traction, crossing the 100,000‑unit shipment threshold for the first time in a single quarter.
Demand was robust across commercial and consumer channels. The commercial segment rose 11.4 % YoY, powered by enterprise upgrade cycles and rising orders from small‑and‑medium businesses (SMBs), whose market grew 18.8 %. Small office buyers increased 13.1 %. The consumer market posted its best quarter yet, with 2.8 million units shipped, aided by early‑festive season sales and aggressive e‑commerce promotions. Online channels recorded their highest volume ever, with nearly one million units moved.
“Consumer buying behaviour has shifted, with many customers delaying purchases to take advantage of festive discounts,” said Bharath Shenoy, Research Manager, IDC India & South Asia. He added that vendors had cut shipments in Q2 and built inventory for Q3 sales, an adjustment that unfolded in stages between late September and early November.
