Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia is heading to Dubai, UAE, to lead India’s team at the 28th Universal Postal Congress. This big global event brings together postal leaders from around the world, and India plans to shine a light on innovation, financial inclusion, and teamwork in the postal sector. An official shared these exciting details on Monday.
One of the major highlights? The launch of the game-changing UPI-UPU Integration project. This initiative aims to transform cross-border remittances to India, making it easier for people abroad to send money home quickly and safely.
The project teams up the Department of Posts (DoP), NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), and the Universal Postal Union (UPU). It connects India’s popular Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with the UPU’s Interconnection Platform (IP). Imagine a secure, fast, and low-cost way for the Indian diaspora to support their families back home—this could boost millions of lives and fuel India’s economic growth.
During the congress, Scindia will give a keynote speech. He plans to share India’s bold vision for a modern, reliable, and inclusive postal system. The talk will focus on how technology can supercharge postal services and spread financial inclusion worldwide.
India’s delegation will chat with reps from 192 member countries. They’ll swap ideas on postal innovations, hunt for new partnerships, and push for smart solutions in the sector. Plus, India wants to drive a forward-thinking agenda for the “Dubai Cycle,” stressing tech adoption, eco-friendly practices, and fair access to postal services for everyone.
Vandita Kaul, Secretary of the Department of Posts, Government of India, said: “India stands ready to team up with the global postal community for a more connected, inclusive, and sustainable future.” She added that the UPU Congress is a fantastic spot for collaboration and sharing knowledge, and India is eager to help make it a success.
On top of that, India has thrown its hat in the ring for seats on the UPU’s Council of Administration and Postal Operations Council. The goal? Build strong partnerships that deliver big results, speed up digital transformation, and make postal services better for all. This move shows India’s growing role in global postal innovation and UPI integration.
