Korean Air is teaming up with U.S. defense tech company Anduril Industries to create an AI-powered system that fights wildfires using drones. This exciting partnership, reported by Pulse from Maeil Business Newspaper Korea, promises to speed up wildfire detection and response in ways we’ve never seen before.
Right now, fighting wildfires depends a lot on people spotting the flames and rushing in, which can take precious time. But this new setup uses artificial intelligence to watch for fire risks around the clock. As soon as it spots a spark, the system kicks into action and sends out drones to tackle the problem head-on.
The two companies are building a full wildfire prevention and response solution together. It builds on a technology deal they signed in August to work on unmanned aerial vehicles, or UAVs, in South Korea and the Asia-Pacific region. Now, they’re taking it global with a focus on social good, like stopping devastating wildfires.
Korean Air brings its drone-building know-how, while Anduril adds its smart Lattice platform for AI command and control. The system pulls in constant data from sensors in the air, on the ground, and even satellites. It scans for early wildfire signs 24/7. When it confirms a fire, it notifies officials right away. Then, Lattice sizes up the blaze and automatically launches Korean Air’s drones to drop fire suppressants and help contain it fast.
If this AI-driven wildfire response system hits the market, it could change how we handle these disasters. Traditional methods often wait tens of minutes or even hours to spot and act, letting fires grow out of control. With drone deployment in seconds, experts say we could stop blazes before they turn into monsters.
A Korean Air official told Pulse that the company has always wanted to use its UAV skills to solve big global issues. “This partnership will boost human efforts in wildfire fighting and help prevent massive outbreaks,” the official said.
