Pune, Oct 16 – Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told lawmakers that the state will back the production of electric trucks and build new electric‑vehicle corridors, including a link between Mumbai and Pune.
Fadnavis highlighted the “revolution on wheels” from Blue Energy Motors, a local firm that produces electric trucks with swappable batteries. He said the trucks’ technology and efficiency could spur a large‑scale boost to the electric‑vehicle market, and that the government will help set up routes such as the Mumbai‑Pune electric corridor.
“Goods trucks produce a lot of carbon, so we need electric alternatives for public transport,” he said. “It’s a point of pride that we can design and manufacture this complex engineering right here in Pune and Maharashtra.”
The state also signed a memorandum of understanding in Davos, after which Blue Energy Motors moved quickly to set up production. Fadnavis explained that Maharashtra’s sustainable policies, like an EV promotion plan and alternative‑fuel policy, give the industry a big advantage while protecting the environment.
He added that electric trucks will likely find a good market because their prices match those of diesel trucks. The chief minister said the battery‑swapping technology is a major breakthrough for India’s EV sector, noting that battery costs are falling and power lasts longer. “In the near future a truck can travel up to 400 km instead of the current 200 km,” he said.
“This isn’t just a vehicle; it’s ‘software on wheels,’” Fadnavis said, comparing the move to a new chapter in cargo transport similar to Tesla’s impact on passenger cars. The trucks will also carry smart sensors to detect overloading, ensure traffic‑rule compliance, and reduce accidents.
On clean energy, he said Maharashtra is accelerating solar power generation, aiming to source 70 % of its electricity from solar by 2035.
