AURIC Smart City in Maharashtra Attracts Massive Investments and Jobs
Imagine a buzzing industrial hub in Maharashtra that’s turning heads from global giants and local startups alike. That’s AURIC smart city in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, where recent plot allotments have unlocked a whopping Rs 71,343 crore in investment potential. This move is set to create 62,405 jobs across large-scale industries and MSMEs, as per a statement from the Commerce and Industry Ministry.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 7, 2019—exactly six years ago—AURIC has hit the ground running. In the Shendra Industrial Area, developers have allotted plots to 135 MSMEs, 17 large-scale projects, and 16 non-MSMEs. Big names like South Korea’s Hyosung kicked things off by opening India’s first spandex plant here. Other heavy hitters include Perkins from the UK, Fuji Silvertech from Japan, Oerlikon Balzers from Liechtenstein, Siemens from Germany, NLMK from Russia, Kohler from the USA, and Indian firms like Coatall Films, Endurance Complete Solutions, and Detpak. So far, Shendra has drawn Rs 6,096 crore in investments and generated 14,455 jobs.
Over in the Bidkin Industrial Area, the action is even hotter. They’ve handed out plots to 49 MSMEs, 27 large-scale projects, and 4 non-MSMEs, pulling in world-class companies from sectors like automobiles, electric vehicles (EVs), polymers, and engineering. Investments here total Rs 76,219 crore, with stars like Ather Energy for EVs, Lubrizol for chemicals, Toyota Kirloskar for automobiles, and JSW Green Mobility. This area alone promises over 35,000 jobs, making it a real growth engine for the Marathwada region.
What makes AURIC stand out? Almost all its industrial land is now allotted, showing huge investor confidence in its top-notch infrastructure and supportive policies. It’s all about inclusive growth too—special shoutouts to women entrepreneurs like Vaishali Ajeet Deshpande of Anukul Power Engineers Pvt. Ltd., Dr. Hershali Sandeep Deshmukh of Turbonova Polymer Pvt. Ltd., and Payal Naikwad of Rayon Illuminations and Energy Solutions Private Limited. They’re proving that MSMEs and women-led businesses are thriving here.
To boost skills, AURIC plans a 20,000 sq. ft. Skill Development Centre in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). This will train workers and connect them directly to jobs. Plus, good news for MSMEs: office space rents drop from Rs 50 to Rs 25 per sq. ft. starting April 1, 2025—a solid 50% cut to make things more affordable.
AURIC isn’t just any industrial zone; it’s a key part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), linking it seamlessly to national and international markets. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is fast becoming a manufacturing powerhouse, thanks to killer connectivity. Think Samruddhi Mahamarg, the proposed Sambhajinagar–Pune Greenfield Expressway, Jalna Dry Port, Aurangabad Airport nearby, and strong rail links. All this ties into PM GatiShakti for smoother logistics and a competitive edge.
Rajkumar Saini, CEO & MD of the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC), sums it up nicely: "AURIC’s journey shows NICDC’s vision for smart cities—building future-ready spots for manufacturing, sustainability, and growth for everyone. In six years, it’s drawn investors from around the world and empowered MSMEs while transforming the region. We’re committed to keeping places like AURIC at the heart of India’s growth story."
Investors love AURIC’s plug-and-play setup: wide roads, reliable water and power, plus advanced sewage and effluent treatment. It follows a sectoral cluster model for industries like automobiles, EVs, electronics, pharmaceuticals, textiles, food processing, IT/ITeS, and chemicals—creating the perfect spot for businesses to expand and succeed. If you’re eyeing opportunities in Maharashtra investments or smart city projects, AURIC is one to watch!
