Malaysian companies are eyeing big investments in Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, with plans to pour in between Rs 6,000 crore and Rs 10,000 crore over the next five years. This boost could supercharge key areas like education, tourism, hospitality, trade, commerce, real estate, and even Telugu culture.
A Malaysian delegation wrapped up talks on Friday with Andhra Pradesh’s Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana. The group included Selangor State Minister Papparaidu Veraman, Klang MP V. Ganabatirau, reps from the Malaysia-Andhra Business Chamber, and leaders from several private firms—many with Telugu roots in Malaysia.
The team has been touring the state since October 1, and they joined Narayana for a firsthand look at Amaravati’s ongoing projects. “We’ll team up with India to help build Amaravati,” Minister Papparaidu said.
During the meeting, company reps shared their ideas through a lively PowerPoint presentation. Standouts include the University of Cyberjaya’s push to establish a medical university in Amaravati and Berjaya Group’s plans for luxury five-star hotels.
Narayana gave the visitors a rundown on Amaravati’s progress, calling it a world-class city in the making—one that could rank among the top five capitals globally. Under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s guidance, the city is taking shape with smart planning.
He highlighted that tenders worth Rs 51,000 crore are already done, construction is underway, and everything stays on track for deadlines. The state aims to finish 360 km of trunk roads in the next 18 months, 1,500 km of layout roads in two years, and 4,000 homes for officials, staff, and leaders by March next year.
Big administrative hubs like the Secretariat Towers, Assembly, and High Court buildings should wrap up in about two and a half years. Recent heavy rains slowed things down over the past three months, but Narayana assured the group that work will ramp up soon.
Joining the discussions were Municipal Department Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar, Capital Region Development Authority Commissioner Kannababu, and CRDA Additional Commissioner Bhargava Teja. This partnership could put Amaravati on the map as a hotspot for Malaysian investment in India.
