The Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5‑door SUV has hit a big milestone: more than 100,000 units have left India for global markets. The record was announced on Thursday by Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the company’s managing director, Hisashi Takeuchi.

The journey began last year, after the Jimny rolled out in India. Built only in India, the small off‑road‑ready SUV has now shipped to more than 100 countries – from Japan and Australia to Mexico and beyond. In Japan, the car launched as the “Jimny Nomade” in January 2025. It sparked an instant craze, with over 50,000 orders pouring in almost immediately. That shows the Jimny’s appeal in a market that prizes quality and performance.

Why the Jimny resonates worldwide is easy to see. It uses a ladder‑frame chassis and Suzuki’s well‑known ALLGRIP PRO 4WD system, giving it strong off‑road handling and stability. Powered by a 1.5‑litre petrol engine, the Jimny balances durability, simplicity and dependable performance – qualities that attract adventurers and everyday drivers alike.

Takeuchi said the 100,000‑export mark is a proud moment for Maruti Suzuki. “The Jimny has a legacy that spans fifty years worldwide. To cross the 1 lakh export milestone is a proud achievement,” he said. He added that the vehicle’s off‑road DNA and uncompromising quality have earned admiration in 100+ countries. He noted, too, that the Jimny, together with 16 other models, showcases “Make in India for the World.”

Maruti Suzuki’s export story is growing fast. In the first half of FY 2025‑26, the company shipped over 200,000 cars – a 40 % jump and a record half‑yearly export volume. The previous fiscal year, FY 2024‑25, saw exports of more than 330,000 vehicles. Maruti Suzuki dominates India’s passenger vehicle exports, holding over 46 % of the market share.

This achievement underscores the company’s steady export growth and India’s rising role as a hub for world‑class automobile manufacturing. The Jimny’s success story is textbook proof that “Made in India” cars can win hearts and seats across the globe.
