India’s festive spirit is firing up the economy like never before. During this Navratri, consumers snapped up goods at the highest levels in over a decade, thanks to smart government moves on GST reforms. These changes slashed tax rates on everything from everyday essentials to dream buys, putting more money back in people’s pockets and sparking a shopping frenzy.

Families across the country seized the moment to upgrade their rides, stock up on home appliances, and splurge on lifestyle items. The result? Record-breaking sales that highlight India’s booming consumption-driven economy. With lower prices, folks felt confident to spend big, turning the holiday cheer into real economic momentum.

In the auto world, excitement hit top gear. Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading carmaker, saw sales double from last year—a 100% jump and the best performance in at least a decade. They racked up 150,000 bookings already and aim for 200,000 by the end. Last Navratri, they sold 85,000 vehicles, but this time, they delivered a whopping 165,000 in just the first eight days. Day one alone brought a record 30,000 deliveries, topping any single day in the company’s 35-year history.

Mahindra & Mahindra joined the party with a 60% sales surge, especially for hot SUVs like the XUV700, Thar, and Scorpio N. Hyundai reported a demand boom for models such as the Creta and Venue, pushing SUVs to over 72% of their total sales. Tata Motors moved more than 50,000 vehicles, fueled by popular picks like the Altroz, Punch, Nexon, and Tiago.

Two-wheelers didn’t lag behind. Hero MotoCorp saw showroom visits double, with strong interest in commuter bikes. Rival Bajaj Auto also logged impressive Navratri sales gains.

The buzz extended to consumer electronics. Brands like LG, Haier, and Godrej Appliances celebrated double-digit growth compared to last year. Haier crushed it with an 85% sales spike—they nearly cleared out their Diwali stock of massive 85-inch and 100-inch TVs, each costing over Rs 2.5 lakh. During the period, they sold 300 to 350 units of 65-inch TVs every day. LG Electronics India called the surge “exponential,” as shoppers loaded up on gadgets.

These wins stem from the government’s push to streamline GST slabs and lighten the tax load on both must-haves and wish-list items. Retailers and brands reported growth between 25% and 100%, giving a major lift to India’s festive economy.

Keep in mind, this early festive stretch—covering Onam, Durga Puja, and Dussehra—drives 40-45% of all holiday sales. It’s the country’s biggest shopping season, and this year, it’s setting the stage for even more growth ahead.
