New Delhi – The North East has been turning into a bright new chapter for India, State Minister for Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi told reporters after the 15th O.N.E. India Award 2025 ceremony on Sunday.
The minister said that regular visits by the Prime Minister, new programmes, and focused governance have driven the region’s fast growth. “Northeast India was neglected for decades, but under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership we’re seeing a remarkable transformation,” Joshi posted on X.
The speech highlighted that all 15 northeastern states are now linked by rail, road, and airports. Big investments in tourism, industry and skill‑development projects are creating jobs and improving connectivity. Joshi added that the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) spent more than Rs 3,447 crore in FY 2024‑25— a 74.4 % jump from last year and a 200 % rise in three years.
He cited new digital tools, including the ‘Poorvottar Vikas Setu’ portal, which gives real‑time tracking of projects. The portal has helped the ministry inspect 97 % of projects and get 91 % of completed projects online.
A major governance tweak announced by the ministry is the creation of Chief Minister‑led task forces for eight sectors—tourism, investment, handicrafts, agriculture, infrastructure, sports, the North East Economic Corridor and protein self‑reliance. These high‑level groups promote cross‑state collaboration and help align policies, ensuring development flows across the region rather than staying isolated in one state.
“These initiatives strengthen the cultural and emotional bridge between the North East and the rest of India,” Joshi said. “We remain committed to building an India where every citizen, region and culture thrives with equal opportunity.”
