New Delhi, Dec 2 (LatestNewsX) – Parliament was briefed that, up to November 4, the government has fitted rooftop solar panels boasting a combined capacity of 1,825.62 MW across 91,574 state‑run buildings, spanning ministries, departments and numerous states and union territories.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has urged every state and UT to direct its agencies and institutions to make use of empty roof spaces for solar installation. Central ministries and departments have received a similar instruction to install rooftop solar on all properties under their control.

“The saturation of Government buildings by installation of rooftop solar is one of the components of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana,” said Minister of State for Power Shripad Yesso Naik in the Rajya Sabha.

He added that there is no Central Financial Assistance (CFA) routed to government sites, because the projects are economically sound on their own.

Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, households may receive a CFA of Rs 30,000 per kWp for the first 2 kWp and Rs 18,000 per kWp for any additional capacity, with a maximum subsidy covering 3 kWp.

Group housing societies and residential welfare associations are eligible for a CFA of Rs 18,000 per kWp, with a ceiling of 500 kWp per plant.

Special‑category states and UTs—including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, J&K, Ladakh, the northeast, Andaman & Nicobar, and Lakshadweep—receive a 10 % higher CFA.

“There is currently no proposal to further increase the CFA under the scheme,” the minister said.

A suite of flagship programmes—PM‑KUSUM, PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, PM‑JANMAN and “One Sun, One World, One Grid”—positions India at the forefront of striving for energy equity, uplifting the poorest communities, and strengthening South‑South cooperation.
