Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met German Economic Affairs Minister Katherina Reiche in Berlin on Thursday. The talks focused on speeding up the India‑EU free trade agreement and boosting trade and investment between India and Germany.
Goyal used the trip to reach out to CEOs and industry leaders, aiming to grow bilateral trade and create more investment opportunities. On X, he said he enjoyed meeting Reiche and highlighted several key areas: joint industrial projects, green‑energy partnerships, new technologies, and even defence cooperation. He also underscored Germany’s commitment to closing the India‑EU FTA.
“I pointed out how India’s large talent pool, coupled with our Ease of Doing Business reforms, offers German companies a great chance to diversify investments and strengthen supply‑chain resilience,” Goyal noted.
During a roundtable, Goyal discussed with German SMEs (Mittelstand) and Indian businesses how both sides can tap India’s innovation and sustainable manufacturing strengths. He called for stronger industrial partnerships that benefit the two countries.
This Berlin visit comes as India and Germany mark 25 years of their Strategic Partnership. The milestone year, 2025, highlights how deep and lasting the relationship is. Goyal’s meetings are designed to spark high‑impact talks with senior officials and business leaders in both nations.
Goyal also plans to speak at the third Berlin Global Dialogue, an annual summit that brings together business, government and academic leaders to debate what shapes the global economy.
