New Delhi – Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal will travel to Brussels on October 27‑28 as India–EU free‑trade talks enter a critical phase. During his two‑day visit, Goyal will meet Maros Sefcovic, the European Union’s Executive Vice‑President and Trade Commissioner, to push the negotiations forward.
The talks aim to finish a balanced and comprehensive trade deal that boosts market access, eases non‑tariff barriers and strengthens regulatory cooperation. Both sides want a pact that helps build resilient supply chains and drives sustainable growth for the two economies.
Minister Goyal’s trip follows a constructive meeting earlier this month that marked the 14th round of negotiations. The trade ministry says the visit will give the talks new momentum and clear political direction. It will also review progress so far and pin down any remaining gaps.
After a business lunch, Goyal and Commissioner Sefcovic are set to share a working dinner, reaffirming their shared goal of deepening India‑EU trade and economic ties. The visit comes as the broader partnership recently took on new strategic depth, after a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen that highlighted the need for a future‑ready trading relationship.
In short, Brussels will be the stage where India and the EU try to lock in a deal that supports growth, sustainability and stronger economic cooperation for both sides.
