India and the US are heating up trade talks, with a key Indian delegation heading to Washington to push for a deal. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will lead the team on September 22, building on recent positive vibes in India-US bilateral trade relations.
This comes right after a productive meeting in New Delhi earlier this week. Officials from the US Trade Representative’s office, including chief negotiator Brendan Lynch, visited India on September 16. They sat down with Indian counterparts led by Special Secretary Rajesh Agrawal to discuss the India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement and other trade ties.
The talks covered key aspects of a potential trade deal, and both sides agreed to ramp up efforts for a quick resolution. “The discussions were positive and forward-looking,” a Commerce Ministry statement noted, highlighting the strong foundation of India-US trade.
India’s Commerce Ministry says negotiations are happening at multiple levels, with both countries approaching issues with optimism. Boosting hopes are encouraging signals from US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who have signaled support for stronger economic ties.
Goyal’s visit aims to advance these talks and seal a mutually beneficial trade agreement soon. This thaw in relations could mean big wins for businesses on both sides, from exports to investment opportunities in the India-US trade landscape.
