Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been praised for steering India onto a new path over the past 11 years, according to Raymond Group chair Gautam Singhania.
Singhania told at the NDTV World Summit 2025 that he’s a strong supporter of Modi’s leadership and believes the country has “found its place in the sun.”
He highlighted India’s resilient middle class and its role in keeping the economy moving during the COVID‑19 pandemic. “India’s consumption story is very strong,” he said. “When COVID hit, global markets collapsed, but our robust middle class kept us afloat.”
Singhania also praised recent changes to the Goods and Services Tax (GST). “The new GST reforms that bring essential products into the lower‑rate category are a game‑changer,” he noted. “We’re already seeing higher sales of white goods, autos, and more. These measures will also help counter the impact of U.S. tariff hikes.”
In another interview with , Sachin Jain, Regional CEO of the World Gold Council for India, described the country as a growth leader. “India is not just the world’s fourth‑largest economy, it’s the fastest‑growing,” he said.
Jain pointed to President Modi’s Viksit Bharat vision, which aims to lift India to a $30 trillion economy. He said this would give every Indian a disposable income of $12,000 to $15,000 per year, fueling consumption and investment for the next two decades.
Together, the comments underline India’s confidence in Modi’s policies, the power of its middle class, and the promise of continued growth and prosperity.
