The Union Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, told a crowd of about 6,000 Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) in Kolhapur on December 13 that these postal workers are the “bridges of trust.” He praised their dedication, pointing out how they bring not only letters but also banking, insurance and government services right into every Indian home. Scindia highlighted how the GDS help knit rural India together and push national progress. He reminded listeners of recent welfare changes—such as allowing GDS children to join Kendriya Vidyalayas, bettering allowances, launching a fresh uniform and jacket, and the Project Arrow initiative—underscoring that the government is truly listening to its front‑line workforce. The minister noted India Post’s reach: more than 165 000 post offices serving around 650 000 villages, and urged the department to evolve into a modern logistics and service hub driven by innovation, reliability and a values‑based mindset. He echoed Prime Minister Modi’s vision of “Dakiya ab bank laya,” explaining how India Post has grown from a mail‑delivery service into a pivotal player for financial inclusion and citizen services while holding fast to the “Seva Bhav” mission. While meeting each awardee, Scindia personally fitted them with the new India Post jacket, cap and pouch, a gesture he said symbolized dignity, identity and pride. The ceremony was also a showcase of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s AI‑powered “Bhashini” platform, exemplifying how the government aims to use AI to break down linguistic and cultural barriers and bring Digital India closer to all.
