Celebrating Excellence: Percussionist Pt. Prodyut Mukherjee Honored at PM Modi’s 75th Birthday Event

In a vibrant ceremony in Kolkata, renowned percussionist and Grammy jury member Pt. Prodyut Mukherjee received the prestigious Governor Award of Excellence. The event took place on September 17, 2025, at the historic Raj Bhavan, organized as part of the Navyug@75 function to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday. West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose presented the award, blending honors for achievements with a strong focus on service and Indian culture.

The evening shone a spotlight on 75 outstanding individuals from diverse fields, all recognized for their valuable contributions to society and the nation. Adding a heartfelt touch, the event extended financial help to 30 cancer patients, showing Raj Bhavan’s commitment to compassion and supporting those in tough times.

Cultural highlights made the night even more special. Governor C.V. Ananda Bose recited a poem he specially wrote for the occasion, which drew warm applause from the gathered guests. The Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) also performed a captivating dance, sending birthday wishes to PM Modi through graceful moves and expressions.

This award celebrates Pt. Prodyut Mukherjee’s remarkable work in music, especially his efforts to promote Indian classical and fusion music worldwide. As a Grammy jury member from the Los Angeles chapter, he earned the Global Indian Music Academy Award in 2016 for his album Rhythm Express – Moods. His collaborations with fellow artists and innovative projects like the Green Tabla highlight his passion for blending tradition with global appeal.

The Governor Award of Excellence spotlights people who excel in their areas, and Pt. Mukherjee’s win truly reflects his dedication and love for music.
