On the evening of October 10, 2025, the National Anti‑Smuggling Coordination Centre – or S‑CORD – held its second major summit at the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) headquarters in New Delhi. The meeting gathered 21 key government agencies, all of which play a role in fighting smuggling and protecting India’s borders.
The gathering featured top border‑guarding forces: Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Indo‑Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Border Security Force (BSF), Assam Rifles (AR), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Indian Coast Guard. “We are in this together,” said a senior S‑CORD official, underscoring the alliance between troops on the frontier and coast who often intercept contraband.
Law‑enforcement and intelligence agencies also took part. The Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Economic Intelligence Bureau (CEIB), Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Intelligence Bureau (IB), and the Cabinet Secretariat joined the discussion. “We need unified intelligence,” added one representative, highlighting the cross‑agency flow of information to track illicit trade routes.
Other important voices came from the tax and trade side: the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC). The meeting also kept an eye on non‑tradable smuggling fronts, inviting the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), Indian Railways, and the Division of Disarmament and International Security Affairs (D&ISA) of the Ministry of External Affairs.
S‑CORD, set up under the Union Finance Minister’s guidance, first met in April 2019. This second meet shows India’s sustained effort to bolster anti‑smuggling measures through tight coordination, ensuring that customs, border patrol, and intelligence can respond swiftly to new threats.
The gathering confirmed that India remains committed to tightening its trade security framework, keeping smuggling at bay by working together across federal agencies. ()
