State Bank of India (SBI) is boosting its footprint in Tamil Nadu by opening 14 new branches, two home loan centers, two advanced rural self-employment training institutes, and a dedicated currency administration branch. SBI Chairman Challa Sreenivasulu Setty kicked off these expansions during his visit to the bank’s local head office in Chennai.
These moves highlight SBI’s push to grow its network while helping communities thrive across the state, as the bank shared in a statement. Setty also launched 110 gram panchayat camps online, bringing key banking and financial services right to rural areas. This ties into the Finance Ministry’s drive for full financial inclusion. Bank officials and business partners ran the camps, drawing crowds of customers eager for services.
On the community front, SBI stepped up with a corporate social responsibility (CSR) effort. The bank handed over a Rs 1.47 crore cheque to Sudhan R., a retired IAS officer and secretary of the Namma School Foundation. The funds will upgrade 30 government primary schools in Tamil Nadu, showing SBI’s commitment to better education infrastructure.
Setty shared his thoughts at the event: “SBI is already India’s biggest bank with more than 22,980 branches, but we spot plenty of room to grow where banking access lags. These new Tamil Nadu branches build stronger ties on the ground, paired with gram panchayat camps to spark financial inclusion from the roots up. We’re also dedicated to giving back—upgrading government schools is part of that duty. Our goal? Expand in ways that deliver real economic and social wins for the people we serve.”
He wrapped up by saying these steps reaffirm SBI’s promise to make banking easier and more inclusive for everyone. Through efforts like this, the bank isn’t just expanding—it’s fueling overall community growth in Tamil Nadu and beyond.
