Prime Minister Narendra Modi is pushing hard to build a strong and self-reliant chip manufacturing industry in India. The goal? Reduce imports of crucial technology and boost local production. In line with this push, global semiconductor equipment giant ASML Holding NV made its first-ever appearance at ‘SEMICON India 2025,’ showing its interest in supporting India’s growing semiconductor dreams.
ASML is a leader in semiconductor lithography, a key technology used to make tiny chips found in smartphones, cars, and 5G devices. Christophe Fouquet, the CEO of ASML, praised India’s progress. “India is making great strides with investments, talented workers, and strong government support,” he said. “We believe India’s vision will strengthen the global semiconductor industry.”
The company is eager to learn more about India’s chip sector, build new partnerships, and explore future opportunities. During the event, Fouquet shared plans to deepen collaboration with Indian businesses over the coming year.
ASML showcased its latest lithography equipment, which includes inspection tools, metrology systems, software, and advanced lithography systems. These tools are essential for producing smaller, faster, and more powerful chips – a key driver for India’s booming smartphone, auto, and 5G markets.
According to ASML, India’s semiconductor market could hit over USD 55 billion by 2026 and grow to USD 100 billion by 2030, thanks to strong demand and government support. The company’s advanced lithography technologies can help Indian chipmakers produce highly efficient chips at scale and lower costs.
India’s government also hopes to develop a reputable domestic chip industry. The plan is to start making chips locally by the end of this year, opening new doors for companies like ASML to supply vital equipment.
As India accelerates its semiconductor journey, companies like ASML are ready to play a crucial role in shaping the future of India’s tech industry.
