Odisha LoP Naveen Patnaik predicts beginning of BJP’s defeat from Nuapada

In the run‑up to the November 11 by‑poll in Odisha’s Nuapada Assembly constituency, former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik fired a warning at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader posted a video message telling voters that a BJP defeat would start in Nuapada.

Patnaik said the BJP government has let women’s safety slide, raising “atrocities against women” in Odisha. He blamed the party for harassment of women under the Mission Shakti programme and for stopping the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana, which he claimed has hurt patients. “The government is against women, tribals and development,” he added, urging voters to back the BJD.

The former chief minister specifically asked residents to vote for BJD candidate Snehangini Chhuria, promising he would serve Odisha “until my last breath.” Patnaik thanked people of Nuapada for their turnout at his roadshows on Khariar Road, Komna and Nuapada, and noted the campaign ended on Sunday.

This by‑poll is the first election contest since the BJP took power in state government. The seat became vacant after the death of senior BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia on September 8. Leading parties will leave nothing undone to win the Nuapada Assembly constituency on November 11.
