TN govt warns teachers against caste bias in schools, strict action ordered

Tamil Nadu Cracks Down on Caste Discrimination in Schools with New Strict Rules

The Tamil Nadu School Education Department is taking a strong stand against caste-based discrimination in schools. They’ve rolled out tough new guidelines that warn teachers of serious consequences if they stir up caste or communal tensions among students or on school grounds. This move aims to create a safer, more inclusive space for kids amid growing worries about caste-related fights in schools and colleges.

The push comes after a key report from Justice K. Chandru’s one-man committee highlighted these problems and suggested fixes. Now, the government is acting on it to build equality and unity in classrooms.

Chief Education Officers (CEOs) in every district must step up efforts to promote social justice and togetherness among students. If anyone spots a teacher pushing caste or communal bias, CEOs have to jump in right away. They’ll investigate complaints quickly, and if they’re true, transfer the teacher immediately. Plus, they need to send a full report back to the department.

The rules also stress keeping scholarship details private for students from marginalized communities. Schools should call eligible kids one-on-one for info collection or payouts, and never display or share those records publicly. This helps protect vulnerable students from stigma.

To build leadership and teamwork, schools must launch the "Magizh Mutram" program. It focuses on fun activities that teach kids how to live together and share responsibilities, boosting their social skills.

On another note, the ban on mobile phones in schools stays firm. If a phone gets seized, the school principal hands it straight to the parents—no exceptions.

Schools also keep up "Araneri" classes, drawing from the ancient Thirukkural text to teach discipline and good values. It’s all about shaping well-rounded students.

For student safety, every school needs a "complaint box" outside the gate. Kids can drop in worries from school or home anonymously, ensuring quick help and support.

Overall, Tamil Nadu’s education team is laser-focused on wiping out discrimination and fostering inclusivity. These steps could make a big difference in creating discrimination-free schools across the state.
