The kickoff session set the tone right. Chief Guest Prof. Sunil Bhagwat, Director of IISER Pune, highlighted how chemistry education shapes young minds for the future. Guest of Honour Dr. Kamlesh Fondekar, Head of R&D at Godrej Agrovet, brought in real-world insights on innovation from industry. Joining them were big names like Prof. V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor of Somaiya Vidyavihar University; Dr. Damodar Prabhu, President of ACT; Prof. N. Sathyamurthy, Founder-Director of IISER Mohali; and Prof. Neetin Desai, Dean of the Somaiya School of Basic & Applied Sciences.

The lineup of speakers was star-studded. Think Prof. Dr. John Warner, the Father of Green Chemistry; Padmashri Prof. Dr. G. D. Yadav, ex-Vice-Chancellor of ICT Mumbai; experts in computational chemistry like Prof. Dr. S. R. Gadre; synthetic organic chemistry whiz Prof. Dr. Uday Maitra from IISc Bengaluru; Prof. Ponnadurai Ramasami from the University of Mauritius; and more, including Prof. Suresh Valiyaveettil from National University of Singapore, Prof. S. Sivaram from IISER Pune, Dr. Bipul Saha from IUPAC, and Dr. Satish Pai, President of Deloitte South Asia. These leaders shared fresh perspectives on everything from nanotechnology to environmental chemistry.

Prof. V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor of Somaiya Vidyavihar University, shared his thoughts: "Events like this International Conference on New Dimensions in Chemical Sciences & Education let us connect with faculty and pick up tips from top institutions pushing science education and research forward. Chemistry is key to higher education in India—we must build it up, fix the gaps, and make learning meaningful. We’re eager for the insights coming out of this."

Dr. Damodar Prabhu, President of ACT, added: "We crafted this conference to fit the modern chemistry world’s needs, spotlighting world-class research in areas like green chemistry, computational chemistry, new materials, nanotechnology, and environmental chemistry. It drew over 90 oral and poster presentations from colleges, universities, research labs, and industries nationwide."

Somaiya Vidyavihar University keeps leading the charge in interdisciplinary research, sustainability, and practical innovations. They’ve rolled out big moves like the upcoming International Conference on Biomaterial-based Therapeutics and Devices (ICBTD 2025), the Somaiya Institute for Research and Advanced Studies (SIRAC), MSc programs in polymer science, and a new Centre of Excellence in Analytical Pyrolysis with Japan’s Frontier Laboratories. Their strong research setup, global ties, and innovation focus make them a go-to spot for knowledge, discoveries, and education that prepares students for tomorrow.

Founded in 2019 and accredited with an A grade by NAAC, Somaiya Vidyavihar University builds on the Somaiya Vidyavihar’s 84-year tradition. Their motto, "Knowledge Alone Liberates," drives academic excellence, all-round growth, and strong character. They offer undergrad, postgrad, and PhD programs across fields like management, engineering, basic and applied sciences, commerce, humanities, design, and more. Located in Mumbai, it connects students to key industries, boosts startups via an incubator, and stresses hands-on learning and sustainability. This shapes future leaders in India’s education scene.

The Association of Chemistry Teachers (ACT), started in 2000 by Mumbai’s Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (TIFR), works as a national network to boost chemistry education and research. It links school, college, and university teachers with scientists and industry pros through conferences, workshops, student contests, and events like Chemistry Day. ACT supports Chemistry Olympiads, IUPAC Global Women Breakfast, and honors top teachers with awards. With members across India and global honorary members, it sparks teamwork in academia, research, and business.
