Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin kicked off a big change for commuters in Chennai today by launching Chennai One, India’s first all-in-one public transport app. This handy mobile tool pulls together every mode of city travel—buses, suburban trains, metro rail, autorickshaws, and taxis—right on your phone.
The unveiling happened at the state secretariat during the latest meeting of the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority, which Stalin led. The group also greenlit a bold 25-year transport master plan to keep pace with the city’s booming population and deliver smooth rides for everyone.
Available now on both iOS and Android, the Chennai One app lets you map out your full journey and pay in one go. Grab digital tickets with UPI or your bank card, then scan a single QR code to hop between different transport options without the usual hassle.
It’s a real game-changer for urban mobility in India. No more fumbling with separate apps or tickets—just real-time tracking for buses and trains to help you stay on schedule. Plus, the app speaks to Chennai’s diverse crowd with support for Tamil, English, Telugu, and Kannada.
Officials say this setup cuts down on long lines at counters and switching between providers, making public transport way easier to use. The goal? Get more people ditching cars for buses and trains, which should clear up Chennai’s jammed roads and cut down on pollution.
Stalin called it a huge leap for a modern Chennai. “With Chennai One, we’re leading the way in urban mobility that’s inclusive, efficient, and green,” he said. “We want public transport to be the top pick for every resident.”
Transport pros are cheering the move, saying integrated ticketing and live updates have been top requests from city dwellers for years. The new 25-year plan backs this up with plans for better infrastructure, wider metro and suburban lines, and easier last-mile connections.
Chennai One puts the city ahead in India’s push for smarter digital public transport, making daily commutes simpler and more sustainable for all.
