BCCI announces cash prize of Rs 51 cr for India’s victorious Women’s World Cup contingent (Ld)

Mumbai, Nov 3 – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) yesterday announced a cash reward of Rs 51 crore for the Indian women’s cricket team, their support staff and selection committee after the squad won India’s first ICC Women’s World Cup.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s team lifted the trophy in the final at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, beating South Africa by 52 runs. The win cemented India as the world’s top women’s team and sparked celebration across the country.

In a statement, the BCCI said the reward recognises the players’ dedication, the coaching staff’s hard work and the selection committee’s role in building a champion side. “This unprecedented success deserves a generous reward,” the board added.

The announcement also highlighted Jay Shah, who served as BCCI’s Honorary Secretary before becoming the current chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). During his time at the BCCI, Shah pushed for stronger domestic leagues, better facilities and higher prize money for female cricketers. Under his ICC leadership, prize‑money for the Women’s World Cup was raised, signalling a commitment to gender equality in the sport.

BCCI officials said the victory will inspire a surge of girls to take up cricket and will spur more grassroots programmes across India. “We will keep investing in women’s cricket, strengthening domestic pathways and nurturing the next generation of talent,” the board pledged.

BCCI president Mithun Manhas congratulated the players, saying their resilience and teamwork lifted India’s hope. Secretary Devajit Saikia highlighted the effort of coaches, support staff and state associations. Vice‑president Rajeev Shukla stressed that the win followed years of improved tournaments, better facilities and equal opportunities. Treasurer A. Raghuram Bhat praised the unity and character shown by the squad, calling the triumph a watershed moment for women’s cricket worldwide.

The BCCI’s commitment to the sport remains strong, as it prepares to celebrate the champions in the grandest way while building a new era for Indian women’s cricket.
