Sunsure Energy has just flipped the switch on a massive 82.5 MWp open access solar power plant in Erach, near Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh. This marks their 10th solar project in the state, boosting their total capacity here to 260 MWp across spots like Agra, Banda, Mahoba, Jhansi, and Chitrakoot. These plants deliver clean energy to industries in fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), ceramics, metals, and chemicals, helping businesses go green without breaking the bank.
The new Jhansi solar plant will crank out 12.8 crore units of clean power each year. Over its lifetime, it could slash more than 2.20 million tonnes of COâ‚‚ emissions. That’s a big win for Uttar Pradesh’s push toward renewable energy, giving local industries reliable and affordable green power right at home.
With this addition, Sunsure Energy edges closer to hitting 500 MW of operational capacity in Uttar Pradesh by the end of fiscal year 2026. “We kicked off solar development in Uttar Pradesh back in 2021 with a 15 MW plant in Pailani,” said Shashank Sharma, founder, chairman, and CEO of Sunsure Energy. “Now, with nearly 300 MW up and running, we’ve seen 20 times the growth in just four years. Uttar Pradesh is booming industrially, and as a state that imports most of its energy, it needs homegrown clean power to fuel that growth. We’re committed to making it happen.”
Uttar Pradesh’s Solar Energy Policy 2022 plays a key role, spotlighting clean energy for the state’s future. It encourages open access solar, rooftop setups, and third-party sales, with perks like banking provisions and waived charges on transmission and wheeling. These moves give companies like Sunsure the green light to pour money into big solar projects—and even add battery storage for steady supply.
The Jhansi plant will power big names like Haldiram, APL Apollo, and one of India’s largest data centers. Sunsure serves a wide range of customers, including Jindal Stainless, Kajaria Ceramics, Wonder Cement, Gallantt Ispat, and Dabur. Through their UP Shakti initiative, they’re ramping up clean, reliable energy to support the state’s industrial surge.
Sunsure keeps innovating, moving beyond basic solar to combined solar-plus-battery energy storage systems (BESS) for round-the-clock clean power. They just won a major NTPC bid for a 125 MW / 500 MWh BESS project, paving the way for Uttar Pradesh’s renewable energy revolution.
Overall, Sunsure Energy boasts 600 MW of operational assets and 7.5 GW in development across states like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, and Karnataka. Their goal? A 10 GW portfolio by 2030, all aimed at driving India’s energy independence and industrial decarbonization. Backed by Partners Group AG with a $400 million equity commitment, Sunsure helps leading businesses and utilities switch to solar, wind, and battery power through long-term deals that cover up to 100% of their needs.
