Tech Leadership, Not Just Economy Size, Will Shape India’s Future Power

In a recent event in New Delhi, Debjani Ghosh, a top expert at NITI Aayog, shared some bold insights on India’s growth. She explained that in the coming years, a nation’s power won’t depend just on its big economy, strong army, or oil reserves. Instead, technology leadership and control over key tech will call the shots.

Ghosh spoke at the launch of the "AI for Viksit Bharat Roadmap," a plan to boost India’s economic growth through artificial intelligence (AI). They also unveiled the NITI Frontier Tech Repository, a handy platform showcasing real-world tech solutions that tackle everyday problems across the country.

During her talk, Ghosh stressed how countries that grab control of vital supply chains in areas like AI, semiconductors, quantum technologies, and biotechnology will lead the world. "Nations setting global standards early will shape the future for everyone," she said. Spotting emerging tech trends ahead of time gives a huge edge, she added. "History proves it—identify trends early, invest in research and development (R&D), and you’ll become the leader. Others will follow."

In a special video message, N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, praised the AI for Viksit Bharat initiative. He called it perfectly timed, as India stands at a turning point to harness AI for massive impact. Chandrasekaran, part of the expert council behind the roadmap, outlined three big goals for AI in India:

  1. Unlock economic growth: Use AI to supercharge India’s economy and create new opportunities.
  2. Build skills and jobs: Train the youth for an AI-driven world, opening doors to employment for millions.
  3. Solve everyday challenges: Tackle basics like healthcare and education to improve lives for all.

This roadmap aims to position India as a global tech powerhouse, focusing on accelerated economic growth through AI and frontier technologies. With tools like the NITI Frontier Tech Repository, it’s easier than ever to see how these innovations are already making a difference in real Indian scenarios.
