Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, sent a bright Diwali greeting to millions of Indians and fans worldwide on Monday. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wished, “Happy Diwali” and tagged Tesla India, adding, “Wishing you an electrifying and safe Diwali.”
The North Indian celebration fell on October 2—Musk’s own birthday—when Forbes snapped his net worth to $500.1 billion, making him the world’s first trillion‑dollar‑cited billionaire. Tesla shares were rising, adding over $6 billion to his fortune as the stock climbed 14 percent so far this year and closed 3.3 percent higher on Wednesday (U.S. time).
Musk’s other venture, AI startup xAI, was valued at $75 billion in July. Although he shot for a $200 billion valuation, he said the company wasn’t raising new capital at that moment.
In India, Tesla is rolling out the standard Model Y to customers, with deliveries of the Long‑Range version set to start soon. Buyers of the Model Y get a free Tesla Wall Connector for easy home charging. The car starts at ₹59.89 lakh. Tesla’s first showroom in the National Capital Region opened this month at the Worldmark 3 complex in Aerocity, following a previous location in Mumbai.
The Diwali shout‑outs went beyond Tesla. Apple’s CEO Tim Cook shared festive wishes and a photo taken by an Indian photographer with an iPhone 17 Pro Max. Google CEO Sundar Pichai also posted his own Diwali greeting, adding to the chorus of global tech leaders celebrating the festival of lights.
This year’s Diwali spurred several high‑profile tech CEOs to reach out, highlighting the reach of the holiday beyond India to people across the world.
