On the evening of September 19, the Kathika Cultural Centre in New Delhi buzzed with excitement as author Satyartha Mishra launched his new book, The Hapless Voyager. Bollywood director Imtiaz Ali joined as the chief guest, sharing the spotlight with dignitaries from India and Australia, plus a lively mix of writers, scholars, media folks, and avid readers.
The night kicked off with warm speeches and open chats about Mishra’s writing journey. As a longtime friend from childhood, Ali called the book a fun blend of funny mishaps, touching moments, random meetings, and real-life human stories. He praised how it captures the ups and downs of life with humor and heart.
What sets The Hapless Voyager apart from typical autobiographies? It’s a lighthearted yet deep dive into Mishra’s adventures across India, Malaysia, and Australia. The story jumps around in a non-linear style, so you can dive into any chapter—whether it’s his wild childhood tales from Patna, awkward cultural mix-ups overseas, or thoughtful takes on kindness, grit, and finding your place in the world.
Mishra himself summed it up during the event: "I wanted readers to feel free to start anywhere. You don’t have to follow the chapters in order to get the full journey."
Early buzz has been huge. Australian cricket legend Greg Matthews hailed Mishra as "one of the good guys" and celebrated his experiences as an immigrant in Australia. Hollywood screenwriter and producer Bobby Galinsky went further, saying it’s like "a wondrous meat-and-two-veggies satisfying hot meal of comfort food on a cold wintry night in front of the fireplace."
Just one week after release, The Hapless Voyager climbed into Amazon India’s Top 10 Bestsellers list, showing how quickly it’s connecting with fans of travel memoirs, personal stories, and immigrant life tales.
The launch wrapped up with a fun Q&A and book signing, where Mishra chatted with attendees about nostalgia, cultural roots, and the wild, unexpected laughs of life’s path. With a foreword by Imtiaz Ali, the book is now up for grabs on Amazon and Goodreads.
