Under Yogi govt’s ‘Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana’, electricity consumers to get 100 pc interest waiver

Lucknow, Nov 30 (LatestNewsX) – The Uttar Pradesh government is launching the “Bijli Bill Rahat yojana” on December 1, 2025. The initiative is designed to ease the burden on hundreds of thousands of electricity users by cancelling all interest charges and providing a rebate on unpaid bills.
This relief will extend to everyday residents, small private households and commercial operators alike. Eligibility runs from the first of December through 28 February 2026.
Under the plan, every consumer will benefit from a full interest‑and‑surcharge waiver and a 25 % reduction on the principal owed. Domestic connections up to two kilowatts and commercial accounts up to one kilowatt receive special consideration.
UPPCL Chairman Dr Ashish Kumar Goyal emphasized that the scheme has been crafted with the public’s wellbeing as the top priority. “We are offering an easy instalment route and an automatic recalibration of bills based on average usage, giving tangible financial relief,” he said at the review meeting.
The programme is especially timely for those who have faced legal challenges over unauthorized electricity consumption, as it is expected to help settle protracted disputes and free affected families from extended court battles.
To take advantage, consumers must register on the official portal; the process can be completed online or by visiting a local electricity division office. In addition, the government has rolled out a comprehensive information campaign that includes notices, pamphlets, informational letters and community camps in both rural and urban areas.
“By ensuring every consumer has access to a fair, accessible, and straightforward energy system, the state will provide equal benefits in terms of energy security and economic relief,” a government release added.
