Vicat in India cheers the Indian government’s big move to slash the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on cement from 28% to 18%, kicking in today, September 22, 2025. The company, operating through its subsidiaries Bharathi Cement Corporation Limited and Kalburgi Cement Private Limited, says this change will make building homes and projects more affordable for millions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman drove this forward-thinking reform. It promises to speed up low-cost housing initiatives and boost India’s infrastructure growth. Plus, it levels the playing field for the cement industry, helping everyone from individual home builders to big developers and everyday consumers.

Anoop Kumar Saxena, CEO of Vicat in India Operations, called it a “bold step” that strengthens India’s path to self-reliance. “At Bharathi Cement and Kalburgi Cement, we’re all in on this,” he said. “Starting today, we’ll pass the full GST cut benefit to customers with our Bharathi Cement brand in the south and Vicat Cement in Maharashtra. We focus on reliable, top-quality products to support the market.”

Manish Sharma, the Chief Operating Officer, added that the company has updated its invoices nationwide to show the new 18% GST rate for cement sales. “We’ve told all our dealers and partners to lower prices right away so customers feel the full savings,” Sharma explained. “This will help home builders and push India toward becoming the world’s third-largest economy.”

Vicat in India stands ready to play its part in the country’s growth story. The firm commits to high-quality cement, drawing on global know-how and eco-friendly methods. Founded in France back in 1853, the Vicat Group has shaped iconic landmarks worldwide. Today, it runs in 12 countries, with 10,000 employees handling cement, ready-mix concrete, and aggregates. In India, through Bharathi and Kalburgi, Vicat fuels key infrastructure and housing projects.
