In New Delhi on Nov. 14, Vice‑President C. P. Radhakrishnan opened the Rotary Tejas – Wings of Change event at Yashobhoomi, praising the global charity’s 100‑year legacy. He highlighted how Rotary has boosted public health, literacy, clean water access, environmental care and peace‑building worldwide and in India.
The three‑day gathering, running until Nov. 16, drew more than 1,400 Rotarians along with leaders, decision makers and guests from across the country. Radhakrishnan said the event’s theme, Tejas, represents the light of knowledge and the warmth of compassion—qualities that drive change in modern India.
He pointed out that India now sits at a crossroads of opportunity and innovation, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In that vision, partnerships between the government and citizen‑led groups like Rotary “form a cornerstone for inclusive, sustainable, and humane development.”
Speaking from his own Rotary days as a student, he recalled district conventions that taught him service and leadership. Radhakrishnan mentioned early milestones, such as the first ambulance service on the National Highway by the Coimbatore Rotary, and praised the group’s rapid growth, making it the fastest‑growing philanthropic organization in India.
Key achievements were highlighted, including Rotary’s $2 billion investment in the Global Polio Eradication Programme, which helped wipe out the disease worldwide. Radhakrishnan stressed that community efforts, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and public‑private partnerships are all vital to development. He praised Rotary’s role in national missions such as Swachh Bharat, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Har Ghar Jal, noting how grassroots participation amplifies impact.
He urged all Rotarians to keep leading as torchbearers for progress and innovation. New ideas in skill development, environmental sustainability, digital literacy and healthcare access should be embraced. Radhakrishnan highlighted Rotary’s unique ability to bring diverse people together for a common purpose, creating real, meaningful change.
Rotary International is a worldwide network of over 1.4 million professionals and community leaders tackling urgent humanitarian challenges. In India alone, 210,000 members across more than 6,700 clubs lead health, education, environment, peace and economic projects.
