New Delhi, Oct 23 – Vice‑President C. P. Radhakrishnan praised India’s jump from 81st place in 2015 to 38th in the Global Innovation Index 2025, pointing to a surge in patents, scientific papers and tech‑driven growth.
During a meeting with Minister of State Jitendra Singh and other science officials at Parliament House, the VP highlighted the ministries’ role in building a stronger innovation‑driven scientific ecosystem. He was briefed on ongoing projects that boost research, technology development and commercialisation, especially in biotechnology, quantum computing and cybersecurity. Weather services, climate and ocean studies and disaster‑risk plans were also discussed.
Radhakrishnan applauded India’s vaccines, the BharatGenAI language model and progress in quantum computing. He urged ethical biotech research, encouraged young people to study science, and called for tighter collaboration with industry. Improved weather forecasting and the vast potential of India’s blue economy were cited as areas that need continued global partnership.
On Tuesday, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met the Vice‑President to review manufacturing, trade and “Make in India” initiatives. The discussion covered how India can stay a global manufacturing and export hub through plans like the Production‑Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, the Gati Shakti national master plan, Start‑up India, the National Manufacturing Mission, free‑trade agreements, One District One Product, industrial corridors, special economic zones, and protection of intellectual property rights.
Radhakrishnan thanked the ministry for its work and stressed that coordinated action across government departments is key to achieving a “Viksit Bharat” – a prosperous India.
