India is solidifying its spot as a top global center for food processing, innovation, and eco-friendly practices, thanks to the recent World Food India 2025 event. The government highlighted this on Monday, pointing to huge investments and fresh international ties that boost India’s role in global agri-food value chains.

The four-day summit in New Delhi wrapped up with game-changing deals. Organizers signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) totaling over Rs 1.02 lakh crore—some of the biggest investment pledges ever for India’s food processing sector. This sets the stage for rapid growth and teamwork on the world stage, said the Ministry of Food Processing Industries.

The event also sparked key partnerships with top institutions like NIFTEM-T and NIFTEM-K. These collaborations focus on sharing tech for food fortification, nutraceuticals, and helping startups thrive in the food industry.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off the summit, drawing crowds of world leaders, policymakers, business heads, and innovators to talk about the future of food and farming. In his speech, Modi spotlighted India’s strengths: its rich agricultural variety, growing demand from a booming middle class, and smart government moves like 100% foreign direct investment (FDI), the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, and Mega Food Parks. These steps position India as a dependable supplier worldwide.

Modi took action too, rolling out credit-linked subsidies for 26,000 small entrepreneurs. The Rs 2,518 crore boost under the PMFME scheme supports micro food projects and empowers local business owners at the grassroots level.

A high-powered CEO Roundtable added momentum. Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Chirag Paswan co-chaired it, with more than 100 CEOs from Indian and global firms joining in. They dove into topics like green investments, biodegradable packaging, turning food waste into resources, tapping the blue economy’s potential, and fixing logistics and transport to cut costs and stay competitive.

On the international front, government-to-government talks strengthened bonds. Delegations from countries including Russia, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Maldives, Portugal, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Eswatini, and Kuwait met Indian officials. They explored ways to deepen ties in agriculture and food processing, reinforcing India’s status as a go-to partner in global food supply networks.
