New Delhi: On Monday, the Cyber Cell of Delhi Police’s Crime Branch announced a major win in a nationwide financial‑fraud investigation, arresting the main perpetrators and dismantling a Rs 1.6 crore stock‑market scam.
According to a press release, the chief suspect was Sunil Kumar, who ran the sham company GTR Electronics Pvt. Ltd. A husband‑wife pair who operated the bogus “Udyam Women Empowerment Foundation” were also taken into custody in Thane, Maharashtra.
Investigators traced 13 complaints lodged through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) to GTR Electronics, totaling Rs 8 84 00 700, and another 45 NCRP reports to the foundation, amounting to Rs 2 20 00 700.
The arrest followed the police uncovering a complex scheme that feigned pre‑IPO offers, high‑return investment traps, and fake foreign‑exchange trading platforms. Victims across India were lured via social media, tricked into wiring funds to accounts linked to the fake firms.
The case began when a complainant approached the Cyber Cell after losing Rs 1.6 crore. He had been persuaded by a woman on social media to invest in what she called the legitimate UK‑based platform Spreadex Global Ltd., which turned out to be a fraud.
A detailed forensic audit tracked Rs 15 00 000 into GTR Electronics’ account and an additional Rs 11 00 000 into the foundation’s bank account. Vishal Choure and his wife, operating from Thane, directed these accounts to collect and launder the illicit proceeds.
Police said GTR Electronics had a fake office established in Shakarpur, East Delhi, using falsified documents. The fake premises were only for giving the scam a veneer of legitimacy and layering the money.
Tracing the financial trail forced the Crime Branch to launch joint raids in Ballabgarh and Thane, where Sunil Kumar, Vishal Choure, and his wife were apprehended. They all operated the fraudulent bank accounts that received the swindled funds.
When questioned, Sunil admitted that he had set up GTR Electronics with accomplices and rented the Shakarpur space to portray the business as a legitimate electronics company. He confessed that he handed over all corporate documents to his associates, who ran the fraudulent transactions.
The operation was carried out by a team led by Inspector Manjeet Kumar, with Sub‑Inspector Parvesh Kumar, ASI Kanwarpal, and Head Constables Vipin, Manish, and Vinod, all supervised by ACP Anil Sharma. Officials say the squad rigorously examined digital footprints and financial records to break the case.
The investigation continues as authorities work to locate and arrest other syndicate members and to trace the entirety of the money‑laundering network.
