Kollam: A woman aged 46 was tragically killed in a violent assault at her home in Apollo Nagar, Karikkode, Kollam. The police say that the victim, Kavitha, was struck on the head with a gas cylinder by her husband, Madhusoodanan Pillai, 54, and she died shortly after the attack. The incident took place around 11 p.m. on a Sunday night.
Witnesses report that the couple were inside the house when they began quarreling. According to authorities, Madhusoodanan suddenly raised a gas cylinder and threw it at Kavitha, inflicting serious injuries. She collapsed immediately, and neighbors heard the commotion and rushed over, but by the time the police arrived she was already dead.
The couple’s daughter was present at the time and calls neighbors to inform them of the event. Police officials say the motive for the killing is still unclear. Early investigations hint at repeated arguments between the pair, possibly involving money or personal grievances, though nothing has been confirmed at this point.
Law enforcement is now interviewing witnesses and interrogating the suspect to determine whether the crime was planned or committed in a heat‑of‑moment rage. Madhusoodanan did not flee; he remained at the scene when police came and was taken into custody without resistance.
Forensic teams have secured the gas cylinder used in the attack and gathered other evidence from the site. Kavitha’s body has been transported to the District Hospital for an autopsy, which should help establish the extent of her injuries and the nature of the assault.
Neighbors recall the couple as generally quiet, though a few mention occasional disputes. No formal complaints had been filed before this incident. Investigators are also speaking with the victim’s relatives and nearby residents to look for any history of domestic violence in the household.
A murder case has been filed, and further legal action will proceed once all interrogations and forensic examinations are complete.
