Youth in Kolkata hotel murdered over monetary dispute: Police

Kolkata: On Friday night, 20‑year‑old Dhruba Saha and his 20‑year‑old companion Komal Saha checked into a hotel in the Kasba area, joining IT professional Adarsh Losalka (33). Two days later, Losalka’s body—naked with his legs bound—was discovered in a hotel room, bearing a serious head wound that police determined caused asphyxiation. By Sunday evening, police had arrested Dhruba and Komal on murder charges. Further investigation revealed that Komal works as an escort and that Dhruba is her agent. A senior officer explained that Komal first connected with Losalka through a dating app and arranged the meeting after a lengthy conversation. Komal resides in Barrackpore, North 24 Parganas, while Dhruba lives in Nadia district; both of them also shared a residence in East Sinthee, Dum Dum, on the city’s northern outskirts. They later turned themselves in and confessed.

“During interrogation, they said an altercation broke out between Komal and Losalka over money after Komal went to his room to spend the night with him. The woman called her agent Dhruba, who was in the next room. During the altercation, Losalka fell down and suffered a head injury. The two then tied his legs, strangulated him to death and fled with his phone and wallet,” the police officer said. According to authorities, Losalka had booked two rooms online. Police are examining additional angles, including torture and sexual perversion, and are still searching for his mobile phone and wallet.

In response to the incident, Kolkata Police instructed officers to conduct surprise checks at every hotel in and around the city, verifying each guest’s ID card against the photo presented and matching the face with the photograph on the card. Police Commissioner Manoj Verma, following a spate of hotel‑room murders along Park Street and Kasba, has mandated that all officers and intelligence units conduct unannounced inspections of every hotel. They will verify Aadhaar or other identity cards, and for foreigners, passports and visas, ensuring that the information matches what is recorded in the hotel’s registrar book. These measures come amid concerns raised after recent blasts in Delhi and similar crimes in other hotels.
