Telangana govt directs mass singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ in government offices and educational institutions

In Telangana, the Congress‑run state government has asked all government offices and schools to sing the complete version of “Vande Mataram” on Friday. The move comes as the state prepares to mark 150 years since the patriotic song was written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1875.
Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao sent instructions to district collectors on Thursday. He told them to hold a mass‑singing session at 10 a.m. in every collectorate and government office on November 7, the anniversary of the song’s first publication. Collections must also arrange the same event in all state‑run, local‑body, aided, and recognized private schools at the same time.
The order comes a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch a year‑long celebration of “Vande Mataram” in New Delhi. The Culture Ministry will hold a ceremony on Friday that will kick off nationwide festivities that will run until November 7, 2026. The goal is to bring people from every walk of life—students, teachers, police, doctors, shopkeepers, and government workers—into a united chorus that echoes the song’s legacy of freedom and national pride.
“Vande Mataram” first appeared in the 1875 novel “Anandamath” and later as a separate volume in 1882. Its powerful verses have long inspired India’s struggle for independence and remain a symbol of unity. The mass sing‑alongs across the country aim to honor that heritage and invite citizens everywhere to participate in the celebration.
