BJP files complaint against Trinamool councillor for ‘insensitive’ comments against PM Modi

In West Bengal, the local BJP unit has lodged a formal complaint against a Trinamool Congress councillor in the Uttarpara area, saying the councillor made “insensitive” remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The complaint was filed at the Uttarpara police station after the councillor, Arnab Roy, posted a comment under the PM’s social‑media statement.
The incident follows a violent attack on BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh. The two politicians were attacked while traveling to meet flood‑affected residents in northern Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district, near Nagrakata. The attack sparked an apology from Modi, who condemned the violence on his official accounts.
State BJP leader Krishna Bhattacharya demanded that the politician be arrested, insisting that “the Prime Minister cannot be spoken to in that language.” Arnab Roy countered that the BJP is overreacting, saying his comment was misinterpreted. He explained that in Bengali he meant that relief supplies are often snatched, which could spark public anger if not provided properly.
Indrajit Ghosh, the municipal president of the Trinamool party in Uttarpara, urged all parties to avoid harsh language. He reminded that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also faced abusive remarks and suggested that Modi should have addressed the CM, not the TMC, over the attack.
The clash highlights growing tension between the ruling BJP and opposition Trinamool Congress in West Bengal amid high stakes political battles and the ongoing humanitarian needs from the region’s flood‑affected communities.
