Aamir Khan is gearing up to bring the life of Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema, to the big screen in a new Bollywood biopic. Rumors about the project have buzzed for months, and now Phalke’s grandson, Chandrashekhar Pusalkar, has set the record straight.
In an exclusive chat with , Pusalkar addressed the speculation head-on. When asked about reports that Aamir Khan was tweaking the script, he said he reached out to the actor’s team. “Those stories are fake,” he revealed. “The script is locked in, and filming kicks off soon. Even director Rajkumar Hirani is on board and excited about it.”
Pusalkar believes the movie could inspire audiences and shine a light on his grandfather’s massive role in shaping Indian cinema. Aamir and Hirani, known for hits like 3 Idiots and PK, are reportedly teaming up to tell Phalke’s story—a tale of innovation that started with India’s first full-length feature film, Raja Harishchandra, back in 1913.
Reflecting on his family legacy, Pusalkar called himself “incredibly lucky” to be Phalke’s grandson. Born in 1951, he never met the legend, who passed away in 1944. But his mother kept the memories alive through vivid stories. “She’d proudly clip newspaper articles about him and show everyone in our modest home,” Pusalkar shared. “Sometimes she’d laugh, other times she’d tear up, but she always made sure I knew how special he was.”
Discipline ran deep in the family too. “Mom would scold me, saying I should live up to my grandfather’s standards,” he recalled with a chuckle. As a kid, that frustrated him—”Who is this guy getting me in trouble?”—but as he grew older and dove into Phalke’s achievements, Pusalkar felt nothing but gratitude for those lessons.
