Prime Minister Narendra Modi drew massive crowds during a lively roadshow in Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, on Monday. Throngs of people lined the streets, waving Indian Tricolours and chanting “Vande Mataram” to give him a warm welcome.
Women and young people turned out in huge numbers, with many women donning traditional attire to celebrate the visit. The energy was electric as Modi made his way through the city.
Later, Modi kicked off several key development projects worth more than Rs 5,100 crore in Itanagar. In his speech to the crowd, he paid tribute to the local deity Donyi Polo and asked for blessings for everyone.
Modi shared how touched he felt driving from the helipad to the event site, greeting countless supporters along the way. Kids and youth waving national flags made the moment special, he said, praising Arunachal Pradesh’s famous hospitality.
He called Arunachal not just the land of the rising sun but a hotspot of strong patriotism. “Just like the saffron stripe starts our national flag, Arunachal’s spirit kicks off with that same fiery energy,” Modi noted. He described the state’s people as brave yet simple, and said every trip here fills him with joy. The love from locals feels like a huge honor, he added.
Modi highlighted Arunachal’s cultural gems, from the Tawang Monastery to the Golden Pagoda in Namsai, as a beautiful mix of peace and heritage. “This sacred land is Mother India’s pride,” he said.
What made this visit extra special? Modi pointed to three big reasons. First, it fell on the opening day of Navratri, letting him soak in the stunning Himalayan views while devotees honor Maa Shailputri, the goddess linked to these mountains.
Second, he rolled out next-generation GST reforms nationwide and launched the GST Savings Festival. With the festive season underway, people are getting a real double boost, Modi explained.
Third, the day brought major wins for Arunachal through new projects in power, roads, tourism, health, and more. These efforts from both the central and state governments mean double the gains for locals, he said, congratulating everyone. The GST Savings Festival, he added, will spread joy, growth, and success across India.
A highlight was laying the groundwork for two big hydropower projects in the Siyom sub-basin, totaling over Rs 3,700 crore. The 240 MW Heo Hydro Electric Project and 186 MW Tato-I Hydro Electric Project will tap Arunachal’s huge hydro potential and push clean energy.
Modi also started construction on a modern convention center in Tawang, perched at over 9,820 feet. This spot will host national and global conferences, cultural events, and shows for more than 1,500 people. It meets world-class standards and will boost tourism and culture in the area.
On top of that, he unveiled infrastructure upgrades worth Rs 1,290 crore, covering roads, healthcare, fire services, hostels for working women, and beyond. These steps should spark economic growth, better living standards, and stronger connections in Arunachal Pradesh.
To wrap up, Modi chatted with local taxpayers, traders, and business folks about how recent GST rate changes are easing business and sparking entrepreneurship.
