Exciting news for fans of Tamil cinema! The highly anticipated film ‘Thandakaaranyam,’ directed by Athiyan Athirai, is gearing up for release on September 19. The film stars popular actors Dinesh and Kalaiyarasan and promises a compelling story set deep within forest lands.
The production company, Neelam Productions — led by renowned director Pa Ranjith — recently shared new details about the film. They revealed the name of Kalaiyarasan’s character: Murugan. In their announcement on social media, they described Murugan as a character full of grit and strength. Just a day earlier, the makers had introduced Dinesh’s role as Sadaiyan.
The teaser for ‘Thandakaaranyam’ gives a glimpse into the unique story. It’s narrated from a woman’s point of view, where a young woman from a tribal village tells a story rooted in the forest. She shares how every girl born in the forest also brings a special root vegetable, and her grandmother used to say that the man who finds that root and brings it to her is meant for her. The story hints at love and loss, but also hints at deeper themes like oppression and struggle faced by tribal communities.
From the visuals in the teaser, it’s clear that Murugan plays a role in a uniformed service — possibly a protector or soldier — while Sadaiyan is a tribal leader, hinting at tension and conflict in the story. The film explores issues faced by these communities, set against the lush yet challenging forest landscape.
Apart from Dinesh and Kalaiyarasan, the film features talented actors like Rithyvika, Vinsu Sam, Muthukumar, Aruldass, and Saranya Ravichandran. Actor Shabeer Kallarakkal, famous for his impressive role in ‘Sarpetta Parambarai,’ will also have an important role, along with comedian Bala Saravanan.
The film is shot entirely in forest regions and mountain villages, adding authenticity to its setting. The locations include hilly terrains and remote villages, making the story even more immersive.
Musically, Justin Prabhakaran has composed the score, while Pratheep Kaliraja handled cinematography. The editing is by Selva, and the art direction by Tha Ramalingam.
‘Thandakaaranyam’ has officially received clearance from the Censor Board with an U/A certificate, ensuring viewers can look forward to a film that’s intense yet suitable for a wide audience. Fans are eagerly awaiting its release on September 19 — a must-watch for those interested in stories about tribal life, forests, and societal issues.
