In the latest episode of Bigg Boss 19, music composer Amaal Mallik got real with fellow contestant Farrhana about a tough past relationship. He shared how his ex-girlfriend’s family stood against their romance because of religious differences, and it took a heavy toll on her health.
“She was literally sick, so weak,” Amaal recalled. “I sat with her for hours and tried to explain that her parents weren’t agreeing.” The heartbreak peaked at her wedding, where she even called him, begging, “If you come, I won’t get married.” But Amaal couldn’t show up—he had to think about his rising career and respect for his own parents.
All this unfolded while he was deep into composing for the hit film Kabir Singh. “It felt like my life was playing out like a movie,” he said.
After the breakup, 2020 hit Amaal hard. He battled depression and clashed with his family amid the chaos. Looking back on his music career journey, Amaal explained he’s been the family’s breadwinner since age 15. “My first job was as a background music assistant on a film, and from there, I just kept pushing forward. I had responsibilities and couldn’t stop.”
His dad’s health issues added even more pressure. “There was a point where all doors were closed for me,” Amaal shared. “I just thought, before something happens to my dad, I have to be successful. I had to make it.” He started as a big assistant at 15 on 20 of his father’s films, learning everything on the fly in the Bollywood music industry.
Amaal’s drive came from his dad’s stories too. “We’d ask him why we never got invites to Filmfare or big events. He’d say, ‘I’ve done 75 films, and still nobody calls me.’ That fired me up with anger and motivation to go further.”
Today, Amaal stands as one of the most recognized music directors of his generation. “I’ve carved my place through dedication, hard work, and persistence,” he reflected. “Heartbreak, pressure, and responsibilities shaped who I am.”
