Connecticut driver on icy roads slams into pole, snaps it following powerful Northeast snowstorm

A big winter storm dumped plenty of snow over the Northeast this weekend, and in some places that was the first measurable snowfall of the season.

The FOX Forecast Center warned that a second onslaught of arctic blasts would bring extreme cold across the country, with temperatures dropping so low that, when combined with the wet snow, roads turn into dangerous, slick slabs of ice.

In Southington, Connecticut, Kevin Farina filmed exactly that danger on the morning of December 14: a young driver lost control on the icy roads and crashed into a street pole, causing the pole to snap in half.

You can hear the impact in the footage as the pole breaks apart. Later, Farina approaches the truck to check on the driver, asking, “Are you okay, you okay.”

He explains that the roads were covered in snow and slick, and that the driver was traveling too fast for the conditions, which made the vehicle slide right into the pole.

The video also shows the driver getting out of the truck and walking to the ambulance for evaluation. Farina has had a history of accidents near his home; back in 2018 an SUV crashed into a pole under similar icy conditions.
