Anees Bazmee marked the 28th anniversary of the classic Bollywood comedy Deewana Mastana on his social media. He posted the film’s iconic poster and wrote, “28 years ago, Deewana Mastana became a special chapter in my writing journey. I’m grateful for the love this movie has received and for every audience member who made this journey worthwhile.”
Released in 1997, the comedy was directed by David Dhawan and written by Bazmee. It starred Govinda, Anil Kapoor, and Juhi Chawla as the leads, with Johnny Lever, Reema Lagoo, and Anupam Kher in supporting roles. A fan favourite cameo by superstar Salman Khan added extra star power.
The story follows Govinda’s carefree Bunnu and Anil Kapoor’s small‑time crook Raja, who both fall for Dr. Neha (Juhi Chawla). Their fight for her affection turns into a hilarious series of misunderstandings, delivering plenty of laughs and memorable one‑liners. The film’s sharp timing, strong performances, and catchy dialogues won it a place as one of the era’s top comedies.
Deewana Mastana also launched a hit soundtrack. Songs like “O Mummy Mummy” and “Tere Bin Dil Lagta Nahi” still resonate with fans today.
Since then, Anees Bazmee has directed and written several blockbuster hits, including No Entry, Welcome, Singh Is King, Ready, Welcome Back, and the recent Bhool Bhoolaiyaa 2. His flair for comedy and family entertainment keeps Bollywood audiences laughing.
