Angad Bedi celebrates late father Bishan Singh Bedi’s legacy on his birth anniversary
Actor Angad Bedi paid a touching tribute to his late father, the legendary Indian cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi, on what would have been his 78th birthday on September 25.
The “Tiger Zinda Hai” star took to Instagram to share fond memories and throwback photos that capture his dad’s passion for cricket. In one image, Bishan Singh Bedi stands on the field, ball in hand, scanning the pitch with focus. Another shows him in full swing, delivering one of his signature spin bowls. Angad also posted personal snapshots, like the two of them sitting side by side and a family moment from Angad’s wedding.
Alongside the pics, Angad wrote a simple, heartfelt message: “Happy birthday pitaji!! May you always be tossing it up!! 25th Sept 1946..”
Bishan Singh Bedi remains one of cricket’s all-time great spin bowlers. He represented India in Test matches from 1966 to 1979, starring as part of the famous Indian spin quartet alongside legends like BS Chandrasekhar and Bhagwat Chandrasekhar. Bedi captained the team in 22 Tests, played 67 matches overall, and snagged 266 wickets during his stellar career.
Sadly, the cricket icon passed away on October 23, 2023, after battling health issues related to old age and several surgeries.
This year, Angad Bedi and his wife, actress Neha Dhupia, stepped up to revive the Bishan Singh Bedi Cricket Coaching Trust (BBCCT). The trust, originally founded by Bedi himself, aims to nurture young talent. The couple, along with the Bedi family, held a special event in New Delhi to celebrate the late cricketer’s birth anniversary and keep his legacy alive.
Reflecting on his father’s influence, Angad shared: “To celebrate his commitment towards the game, my father always considered his fellow cricketers as his family members. He firmly believed that the more you give to the game, the more it will give back to you, but without expecting anything in return. His mantra was to stay committed and keep your head down. We would like to take his trust forward and, with this initiative, uphold his teachings. He always believed in supporting cricket at the grassroots level and providing cricketers with a platform to showcase their talent.”
