Anupama Parameswaran’s ‘Lockdown’ to now release on December 12

Chennai, Dec 8 (LatestNewsX) – The team behind director A R Jeeva’s intense drama Lockdown, starring Anupama Parameswaran, announced on Monday that the film will finally open in theatres around the world on December 12.

Posting the news on its X account, Lyca Productions added, “When life turns upside down, choices get harder. #Lockdown ⚡️ hits theatres on December 12.”

The picture was initially slated for a December 5 release, but heavy rain in Chennai and elsewhere in Tamil Nadu forced the producers to postpone it.

For almost a week, the area suffered relentless downpours caused by the remnants of Cyclone Ditwah, which had also wreaked havoc in nearby Sri Lanka. Because of these conditions, the filmmakers decided to delay the launch.

In their earlier statement, Lyca Productions said, “With the ongoing rains, the release of #Lockdown has been postponed. Your safety comes first. We’ll meet you in theatres soon. #LockdownInCinemasSoon.”

They also added, “Due to the ongoing heavy rains and adverse weather conditions, the release of our film #Lockdown has been postponed. In light of the current challenges, we are delaying the release to prioritize the safety of our audience, theatre staff, and partners. Please stay safe and take necessary precautions. We look forward to welcoming you to cinemas soon to experience ‘Lockdown’ on the big screen.”

Now that the weather has improved, the makers have set the release date for December 12.

The Censor Board has already granted the film a U/A certificate.

Lockdown is a female‑centric story that has generated a lot of buzz because it’s based on real events.

The trailer shows Anupama Parameswaran as Anitha, who fears going home and has trouble talking to her family about a personal issue. Meanwhile, men seem to make unwanted advances towards her.

As a result, a 21‑day nationwide lockdown is imposed to curb COVID‑19, leaving Anitha isolated at home.

Her parents worry as they notice her constant phone use and short temper. The trailer also depicts Anitha and a friend trying to reach a doctor who is isolated after testing positive.

She’s seen desperately borrowing money from friends, which again frightens her parents who ask why she needs cash.

The trailer concludes with Anitha apologising to her father, promising not to repeat her actions.

Produced by Subaskaran of Lyca Productions, the cast also includes Charlie, Nirosha, Priya Venkataraman, Livingston, Indhumathi, Rajkumar, Shamji, Lollu Sabha Maran, Vinayak Raj, Vidhu, Abhirami, Ravathi, Sanjivie, Priya Ganesh and Asha, among others.

Music is composed by NR Raghunanthan and Siddharth Vipin, with K.A. Sakthivel handling cinematography. V J Sabu Joseph edits the film, while art direction is by A Jayakumar. Choreography is by Sherif and Sri Girish, stunts are choreographed by Om Sivaprakash, and Meenakshi Shreedharan designs the costumes.
