Arnold Schwarzenegger recently dropped a cheeky joke about his divorce from ex-wife Maria Shriver, poking fun at how it hit his wallet during a star-studded event. The Hollywood icon made the lighthearted remark while paying tribute to journalist Chris Wallace at his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony on Thursday.
Schwarzenegger, the legendary “Terminator” star and former California governor, kicked off by sharing his experiences with the media. “I’ve been interviewed by thousands of journalists in my life,” he said. “But not only that—I was married to one too.” He then quipped, “The only difference between Chris and Maria is that Chris has never taken half my money.”
The couple tied the knot in 1986 and built a family together, welcoming four kids: Katherine (35), Christina (34), Patrick (32), and Christopher (27). Shriver, a longtime ABC News reporter, stood by Schwarzenegger through his action-packed career and political stint. But things took a dramatic turn in 2011 when they announced their separation amid reports of his infidelity.
The scandal exploded when Schwarzenegger admitted to fathering a son, Joseph Baena, with their family housekeeper, Mildred “Patty” Baena. Joseph arrived just days after Christopher’s birth, adding to the heartbreak. Their messy divorce dragged on for years, finally wrapping up in December 2021—exactly a decade after they split.
Looking back, Schwarzenegger has owned up to his mistakes. In a 2023 interview, he called the affair his “f–k up” and “failure.” Still, he emphasized their strong co-parenting bond. “We’re good friends,” he said, adding that they celebrated holidays like Easter, Mother’s Day, and Christmas as a family, plus all the kids’ birthdays. “If there’s Oscars for handling divorce, Maria and I should win for having the least impact on the kids,” he joked.
Shriver opened up about the pain in her poetry book “I Am Maria,” writing, “It broke my heart, it broke my spirit, it broke what was left of me. Honestly, it was brutal and I was terrified.”
Despite the ups and downs, Schwarzenegger praised Wallace as a “fantastic journalist” during the ceremony, keeping the mood upbeat. Fans of Arnold Schwarzenegger news and celebrity divorce stories continue to follow their journey, from Hollywood highs to personal lows.
