Mumbai, September 26 – Actress Barkha Bisht is shedding light on how streaming services are shaking up TV habits. In a chat with , she dives into the rise of OTT platforms and what it means for traditional television.
Barkha points out that today’s viewers have more choices than ever. “The audience is divided now,” she says. “Most shows that air on television are also available on OTT platforms like JioCinema or Hotstar. People watch at their own convenience now. It gives the illusion that ratings have dropped, but in reality, they’ve just been spread across platforms. So, it’s not that people aren’t watching—they’re just watching differently.”
She stresses that producers and fans alike should get this shift. Content creators need to tweak their approach to keep up with how audiences consume TV shows and series on OTT.
Barkha also tackles the hot debate: Is there really a gap between TV actors and those in films or OTT? As the star of “Kamini,” she argues that TV pros build serious skills on the job. “Television actors gain a lot of technical expertise,” she explains. “When you’re working on a TV show, you’re doing the same thing every single day, often for years. So naturally, you develop a strong grasp of the technical side of things. When you transition to film or web series, that technical know-how becomes incredibly useful.”
Film and OTT actors might not face the same intense daily routine, she adds. TV stars master camera spots, marks, and line memorization like pros—skills that give them a real edge.
On the work front, Barkha is excited about her upcoming project, “Hello Knock Knock Kaun Hai,” where she’ll share the screen with Sonali Kulkarni. Fans of Indian television, OTT content, and actor insights will want to keep an eye on this one.
