Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off a major boost for Mizoram on Saturday, laying the foundation stone and inaugurating development projects worth over ₹9000 crore in Aizawl. This big push highlights Mizoram’s key spot in India’s Act East Policy and the growing North East Economic Corridor, aiming to supercharge the region’s growth.
These projects cover everything from railways and roadways to energy and sports, taking Mizoram’s development to the next level. PM Modi didn’t hold back on praising the state’s rich history, spotlighting heroes like Lalnu Ropuiliani and Pasaltha Khuangchera for their courage, compassion, and service. “These values run deep in Mizo society, and today, Mizoram plays a huge role in India’s overall progress,” he said.
Modi pointed out how the North East is finally getting connected like never before. Many states here are now on India’s rail map for the first time, thanks to the government’s hard work on roads, highways, mobile networks, internet, electricity, tap water, and even LPG connections. He announced that Mizoram will soon tap into the UDAN scheme for affordable air travel, and helicopter services are set to start, making remote areas much easier to reach.
Rail connectivity, in particular, will change lives in Mizoram, Modi emphasized. It opens up new markets for farmers and businesses, brings better education and healthcare within reach, and sparks jobs in tourism, transport, and hospitality. The Prime Minister called the North East India’s new growth engine, with the government doubling down on infrastructure to link it better with Southeast Asia under the Act East Policy.
Mizoram stands out in this vision, Modi added. Projects like the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project and the Sairang-Hmawngbuchhuah rail line will connect the state to the Bay of Bengal via Southeast Asia, firing up trade and tourism across Northeast India and beyond.
He also cheered Mizoram’s sports legacy, from football stars to champs in other fields. Government schemes like Khelo India are building top-notch sports facilities here, and the new National Sports Policy—Khelo India Khel Niti—will unlock fresh opportunities for the state’s youth.
Wrapping up, PM Modi shared upbeat news on India’s economy: It grew by 7.8% in the first quarter of 2025-26, making it the world’s fastest-growing major economy. Initiatives like Make in India and booming exports are fueling this rise, he noted.
