Mumbai, November 14 – Indian actress Bhumi Pednekar celebrated Children’s Day by reflecting on how stories of children have shaped her career and outlook.
Talking about the film Bhakshak, Pednekar said the role forced her to confront the harsh realities many kids face—fear, silence, and invisibility. She described the character’s journey as one of the toughest she’s ever taken on screen.
On Instagram, Pednekar posted a series of pictures with children and wrote, “Today, on Children’s Day, my heart fills with all the child stories that have stayed with me. Bhakshak was a hard journey that opened my eyes to the terrible truths kids endure. It shook me, even though it was just a film.”
The actress added that her time at the Abhyudaya Ashram gave her a deeper appreciation for kids who show resilience, joy, and dreams. “They remind me how compassion, safety, and dignity can transform a child’s life,” she said.
Pednekar also broadened the definition of “children.” She pointed to India’s street dogs—innocent, vulnerable, and dependent on our kindness. “These animals are also children of this earth,” she added. “They deserve protection, care, and a world without fear. We need empathy for all.”
Bhakshak, directed by Pulkit, follows a local journalist who uncovers hidden abuse cases at a shelter for young girls. The story shines light on systemic neglect and the invisible struggles of vulnerable children.
The actress’s comments hit home on Children’s Day, reminding viewers that real change begins with empathy and action for every young life, human or animal, that faces hardship.
